The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC-Canada) has joined forces with its US counterpart, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), to express support for the approval of TransCanada鈥檚 Keystone XL pipeline.
鈥淧rompt approval of the pipeline鈥�
ACEC and ACEC-Canada sent a joint letter to US President Barack Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Canadian Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver and US Secretary of State John Kerry, urging for the prompt approval of the pipeline that will carry Canadian oil to US refineries.
ACEC President Dave Raymond and ACEC-Canada President John Gamble wrote, 鈥淥n behalf of our thousands of member firms and their hundreds of thousands of employees, we urge prompt approval of the pipeline.鈥� ACEC-Canada represents approximately 500 independent consulting engineering firms across the country, and the ACEC has 5000 member firms.
Economic benefits
They added in the letter, 鈥淲e believe the pipeline should be approved for strong economic, environmental and national security reasons.鈥�
鈥淐anada is a secure and reliable source of energy for the United States for years to come [...] The American and Canadian engineering industries have the know-how and means to bring Canada鈥檚 vast energy reserves to market while minimising any negative environmental impacts.鈥�
