The seventh annual OPITO Safety and Competence Conference, OSCC 2016, will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 16 November 2016. The one-day event is expected to attract over international 450 delegates and 30 exhibitors.

This year鈥檚 conference will have the theme 鈥楩it for the Future鈥. Through keynote presentations and debates it will look at how technology can create real efficiencies in training and assessment processes; and explore how the industry can bring innovation to the way it trains people to go to work and get home safely.

David Doig, Group Chief Executive for OPITO, said: 鈥淭he low oil price is redefining our industry, sharpening the focus around cost and efficiency and challenging current practices. This presents an opportunity to examine the way in which competence and safety is delivered to ensure the global workforce is fit for the future.

鈥淭he cyclical nature of our commodity-driven market dictates that where there are highs there will always be lows. Risk, however, remains the same. We need to look hard at how we set standards, train people and assess competence today in order to re-set the skills and competence landscape to cope with the highs and lows of tomorrow,鈥 he continued.

The OSCC is the only global event focused on debating the issues around safety and competency in oil and gas.

OPITO鈥檚 intention has always been for the conference to reflect the global nature of the industry by moving across different international oil and gas hubs.

鈥淥SCC has gone from strength to strength since its launch and is now firmly established as a key event in the industry calendar. Kuala Lumpur was selected as the first of our new locations as a direct result of feedback from delegates,鈥 added Mr Doig.
