Breaking Free: The Shale Rock Revolution, a new documentary about the American energy renaissance directed by independent filmmaker Robin Bossert, was featured in the closing day showcase 鈥淐all to Action on the Environment鈥 at the 30th Annual Boston Film Festival.

Bridging the information gap on fracking

鈥淏reaking Free seeks to bridge the information gap between public perception and an industry that fuels our daily lives, our national economy, and our future,鈥 said filmmaker Bossert, who brings more than 30 years of experience to the documentary. 鈥淚n making this documentary, we hope to lower the temperature on the conversation about fracking so we can make the right decisions for the future of our country.鈥

Divided into six sections addressing 鈥渃ommunity focus,鈥 鈥渄rilling process,鈥 鈥渉istory of drilling,鈥 鈥渆nvironmental impact,鈥 鈥渟eismicity,鈥 and 鈥渆conomic impact,鈥 the documentary introduces the subject of fracking with stories from people living in affected areas, discussion of the 鈥済ood and bad鈥 aspects of the practice, and informative research and background to help viewers better understand what fracking is, what it has brought to America, and what it can do to help the US free itself of its dependence on oil and gas from hostile foreign nations.

鈥淭here鈥檚 been so much myth and misinformation about fracking that has clouded the mainstream media, and the industry has been so late in joining the conversation,鈥 noted producer Chris Faulkner, CEO of Breitling Energy Corporation. 鈥淚 just couldn鈥檛 stand seeing only part of the story 鈥 the worst-case scenario part 鈥 being told over and over again.鈥
