Applauding ozone decision

91天堂原創 Pipelines,

The API has expressed support for proposals in both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate to rein in new and costly ozone regulations by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Howard Feldman, API Senior Director of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs said, 鈥渢he current standards are working, air quality is improving and the US is leading the world to reducing emissions. The EPA鈥檚 new rule could be so strict that even pristine national parks like Yellowstone would be considered too polluted.鈥

The EPA鈥檚 own data shows that under current regulations, ozone levels in the US declined by 18% between 2000 and 2013. Feldman added, 鈥渢he EPA鈥檚 current regulations are working. New standards could significantly damage the economy by imposing unachievable emission targets on almost every part of our country, including rural and undeveloped areas. It simply doesn鈥檛 make sense.鈥

This new ozone regulation could cost US$270 billion/y and place millions of jobs at risk, according to a NERA economic analysis.
