Gazprom and Kyrgyzstan discuss energy security
The Gazprom headquarters recently hosted a聽working meeting between聽Alexey Miller, Chairman of聽the company's Management聽Committee and Djoomart Otorbaev, Prime Minister of聽the聽Kyrgyz Republic.
The parties addressed the current state and the outlook for co-operation in聽the energy sector. Special attention was paid to聽the affiliation of聽KyrgyzgazProm (focused on聽natural gas purchase, transmission and distribution across Kyrgyzstan) to聽Gazprom Group.
Gazprom access to reinforce Kyrgyzstan's energy security
The meeting highlighted that Gazprom's direct access to聽the Kyrgyz gas market would significantly reinforce Kyrgyzstan's energy security. The company is聽already elaborating the issues related to聽the overhaul and upgrade of聽Kyrgyz gas transmission and distribution systems, enhancing the reliability of聽gas supply to聽end consumers as聽well as聽setting more comfortable gas prices for customers. Moreover, the parties addressed聽socially important聽programs being implemented聽jointly with the Kyrgyz government.
The participants discussed the gas production prospects for Gazprom in聽Kyrgyzstan. It聽was noted that the company would shortly launch survey and聽exploration activities聽in聽the Kugart and Eastern Mailu-Suu IV聽blocks.

Background
Pursuant to聽the intergovernmental agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Russia, on聽10 April 2014, Gazprom and Kyrgyzgaz聽signed聽the Sales and Purchase Agreement for a聽100% stake of聽KyrgyzgazProm, a聽wholly-owned subsidiary of聽Kyrgyzgaz. The KyrgyzgazProm assets include over 700 km of聽gas trunklines, about 2300 km of聽gas distribution pipelines聽as聽well as聽266聽gas distribution hubs.
In聽2003 Gazprom and the Kyrgyz Republic Government entered into the long-term Cooperation Agreement in聽the gas industry for a聽period of聽25聽years.
In聽2007 Gazprom and the Kyrgyz republic government聽signed聽the agreement on聽the common principles for the geological survey of聽subsurface resources. Under the document, Gazprom obtained two subsurface use licenses for the Kugart and Eastern Mailu-Suu IV聽blocks.
Kyrgyzstan's proven natural聽gas reserves聽are estimated at聽6聽billion m3. The domestic gas production averages 30聽million m3/yr. Gas consumption makes up聽some 300 million m3/yr, 90% of聽which is聽imported from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
