According to Energy Voice, Husky Energy has stated that approximately half of the oil that leaked from a spill from its Saskatchewan gathering system pipeline last month has been recovered so far.
Over 1570 bbls of heavy oil and diluent leaked from Husky Energy鈥檚 Saskatchewan gathering system pipeline into the North Saskatchewan River on 21 July. The spill has since threatened the drinking water of several communities along the riverside, said officials of the province of Saskatchewan in a telephone conference call with reporters.
Municipalities, including Prince Albert and North Battleford, have temporarily halted drawing drinking water from the river, instead using other sources in the mean time.
Husky Energy is reported to have given no immediate deadline or indication of when the clean-up will be concluded.
The exact cause of the spill was still unknown.
