The American Petroleum Institute strongly supports the Senate introduction of the North American Energy Infrastructure Act, a companion to H.R. 3301, which would improve the approval process for cross-border energy projects. API Group Director, Downstream and Industry Operations, Bob Greco said the dysfunctional permitting process for energy projects is hurting the USA鈥檚 economy and national security.

鈥淕overnment roadblocks to building infrastructure could harm our current energy revolution,鈥� said Greco. 鈥淲e need to fully embrace our thriving North American energy renaissance by building the infrastructure to transport needed energy to American consumers.鈥�

API thanked Senators John Hoeven (R- N.D.), Joe Donnelly (D- Ind.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Joe Manchin (D- W.Va.) for their leadership in trying to implement a transparent, modern and standardised permitting process for all energy projects that cross US borders.

鈥淭his bill is another great example that energy is not a partisan issue. Responsible North American made energy is something everyone can support. We can be an energy super power, but we need to build a modern infrastructure system to reach that goal.

鈥淲hile we need a consistent and robust regulatory process, it must be fair and be aligned with today鈥檚 energy realities. Unnecessary regulatory burdens on America鈥檚 energy development will stifle investment, harm our economy, and weaken our national security,鈥� said Greco.

API represents all segments of America鈥檚 oil and natural gas industry. Its more than 600 members produce, process and distribute most of the nation鈥檚 energy. The industry also supports 9.8 million US jobs and 8% of the US economy.
