As new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau settles in, the pipeline industry waits for his verdict on several proposed pipeline projects.

is reporting that Trudeau鈥檚 election will effectively put a stop to the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline project. Trudeau is on record saying he would kill Enbridge鈥檚 Northern Gateway Pipeline proposal, which would carry crude oil from the Alberta oilsands to a tanker terminal on the North Coast of B.C. near Prince Rupert. "If I win the honour of serving as Prime Minister, the Northern Gateway Project will not happen," said Trudeau after the pipeline was approved last summer.

"I've been to that part of the world. I've met with many who make their living off the pristine coastal waters. It is just not a place for a pipeline."

It is believed that Trudeau supports TransCanada鈥檚 proposed Energy East pipeline (which will take Alberta crude east).

Trudeau has also been a supporter of the Keystone XL pipeline.

is also predicting the end of the road for the Northern Gateway project, quoting Trudeau during the election campaign when he said: 鈥渢he Great Bear Rainforest is not a place for an oil pipeline.鈥 He is also quoted as being against oil tankers on the north coast, a key part of the project.

also reports that the CAN$6.5 billion Northern Gateway pipeline could be in jeopardy.

In June 2014, a joint review panel of the National Energy Board (NEB) and Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) recommended the pipeline project be approved, subject to 209 conditions, but Trudeau has been vocal on his opposition to the project.
