APA signs gas transportation agreement with EnergyAustralia
Australia鈥檚 largest natural gas infrastructure APA is planning to expand the eastern Australian gas pipeline. The news comes after APA signed an agreement with EnergyAustralia for the transport of gas from the state of Victoria into New South Wales, East Australia.
Expanding capacity
The agreement replaces the current contract between APA and EnergyAustralia and involves gas being carried through APA鈥檚 Moomba Sydney Pipeline and the Victorian Transmission System. Construction will commences at the expiry of the current contract in December this year.
To accommodate increased gas flows from Victoria, APA will expand the capacity of the northern zone of the Victorian Transmission System by looping sections of the Wollert to Barnawatha pipeline. This will cost approximately US$ 67.7 million.
In September, APA announced a US$ 62.56 million expansion of the same section of pipeline required under a supply agreement with Origin Energy.
As a result of both the EnergyAustralia and Origin Energy expansions, the peak winter gas flow capacity from the Victorian Transmission System into the Moomba Sydney Pipeline System will increase by 125% by winter 2015.
Increasing flexibility of gas supply
APA Managing Director Mick McCormack said 鈥淭his agreement with EnergyAustralia, which follows the agreement recently announced between APA and Origin Energy, will help increase flexibility of gas supply into New South Wales.鈥 He added, 鈥淭he expansion on the Victorian Transmission System will further enhance APA鈥檚 pipeline grid, and give our customers greater flexibility in sourcing and transporting gas across the east coast.鈥
