PortVision demonstates pipeline protection solution at boat show

Marine pipeline protection has become increasingly important, with the average incident now costing at least US$1 million to repair, not including the expense of reputational damage or decreased ability to operate in the region, or the incalculable costs of human injury or loss.

PortVision鈥檚 AIS-based vessel-tracking service enables organisations to monitor vessels in every zone of interest where they may threaten nearby infrastructure, and is being used by CAMO for a recently announced industry safety and awareness initiative.

The service鈥檚 use is also being extended by a number of oil and gas companies to include monitoring and preventing encroachment and damage to a broader range of infrastructure including subsea cable and other remote un-manned assets. Both applications were showcased at the International WorkBoat Show last week.

鈥淥ur overall goal is to provide vessel operators with an extra layer of awareness when operating in close proximity to critical infrastructure that could be impacted by them,鈥 said Jason Tieman, Director, Maritime Operations, for PortVision.

鈥淭his automated alert will be a powerful tool for saving lives, protecting the environment, and keeping commerce flowing. PortVision is also working with oil/gas and energy companies to deploy this solution across a broader range of additional assets, as well, like unmanned platforms, subsea cables, and other sensitive infrastructure. The current PortVision functionality is already widely used in the industry for historical forensic, business intelligence, and analytical reporting purposes.鈥
