IMI Critical Engineering, a leading manufacturer of critical flow control solutions, has launched what could be the world鈥檚 first truly intelligent specification tool for severe service products.

Valsiz^庐 9.0CV, which was developed by IMI Critical Engineering鈥檚 IMI CCI business, is the first online application that takes the unique factors applicable to equipment operating in severe service in the oil and gas, power and nuclear sectors into account. The tool delivers recommendations on the most appropriate valve solution.

The Valsiz 9.0CV represents a major change from previous valve sizing tools that simply determine the size and rating of the required hardware, without reference to criteria such as fluid velocity, kinetic energy, noise, pressure drop, vibration, cavitation and flashing.

IMI CCI鈥檚 Chris Peterson explained: 鈥淚n conventional service applications, a valve can last up to 40 years as long as it is correctly sized and specified, meaning a standard sizing tool is perfectly adequate.鈥�

鈥淗owever, in critical applications, we need to understand and take into account the other, more unpredictable factors likely to be encountered when processing multi-stage, multi-phase fluids. Failure simply is not an option 鈥� recognising that, the Valsiz 9.0CV tool harnesses the data inputted by the user and provides a simple 鈥榶es/ no鈥� response as to whether a particular valve type will perform long term successful operation, meeting all of the requirements associated with severe service.鈥�

Focusing primarily on IMI CCI products fitted with acclaimed Drag庐 multi-path, multi-stage velocity control technology, the Valsiz 9.0CV tool covers an extensive range of control valves and desuperheaters. Collateral generated by the tool includes product datasheets, face-to-face drawings, sizing summaries, characteristic curves and brochures.
