91ÌìÌÃÔ„“ Pipelines’ Senior Editor, Elizabeth Corner, sat down with Nigel Curson, Executive Vice President of Technical Excellence at Penspen, to discuss Penspen’s article in 91ÌìÌÃÔ„“ Pipelines.
Nigel is a member of the Executive Committee and is Manager of Penspen’s Centre of Engineering Excellence. He leads development of THEIA, Penspen’s digital transformation project focused on pipeline integrity.
In this spotlight session, we will be reviewing some of the topics raised in Penspen’s recent article for 91ÌìÌÃÔ„“ Pipelines, entitled ‘New life for your assets’, written by Nigel, along with his colleagues Alastair McLachlan and Aidan Charlton.
The article, published in the May 2021 issue of 91ÌìÌÃÔ„“ Pipelines, describes using statistical modelling to evaluate the remaining life of a producing asset. The piece explains that understanding the condition of a pipeline as a distinct asset has the potential to realise future value. The article dives deep into the concepts of design life, asset life extension, remaining life optimisation, effective maintenance strategies and net present value modelling.
Nigel’s experience includes expertise in software development, training, undertaking technical studies and the detailed design of submarine pipelines. He performs engineering management, business development and the development and leadership of Penspen’s asset integrity business.
